Traditionally crafted in Kannauj, India's historic centre of natural perfumery, Ruh Gulab represents one of the oldest living fragrance traditions in the world. Its creation follows methods passed down through generations of master distillers, preserving an art that has remained remarkably unchanged for centuries.
The process begins before sunrise, when freshly opened rose blossoms are gathered in the cool morning air. The flowers are placed into handcrafted copper stills known as deg, sealed with natural clay, and gently heated over a wood-fired flame. As the aromatic vapours rise, they travel through bamboo condensers into receiving vessels, where the fragrant essence of the rose is slowly collected.
This painstaking process requires vast quantities of flowers, exceptional skill, and unwavering patience. Every stage is guided by the experience of the distiller, making each batch a reflection of both nature and craft.
